On 5 April 07 the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg issued a decision in favor of the Church of Scientology of Moscow. The case overturned the Moscow City government’s refusal to register the Church of Scientology of Moscow as a religion.

The Court found that Russia had violated the rights of the Church of Scientology under ECHR Articles 11 (the right to freedom of association) “read in the light of Article 9” (the right to freedom of religion).

The Court also awarded the Church EUR 10,000 in respect of non-pecuniary damage and EUR 15,000 for costs and expenses.
